Digital marketing is a tactic game used to attract consumers and buyers delivered through digital channels. We are living in a digital age which makes it easier to advertise and market to target audiences.
But now, all digital marketing trends stay on the trend. Every year, it changes according to the buying activity of the market and what kind of shopping experience they want to achieve.
This year, here are the latest digital marketing trends marketers should know and apply.

Video Marketing

Video marketing is still in the digital marketing trends for 2019 and probably for some years to come. It is by far the most effective marketing tool. Consumers like anything visual that is entertaining, simple, and engaging because it is human nature to be visual. It is easier to catch their attention and buying preference once they see the product in action. Moreover, videos are convenient because they are shareable and reach a maximum audience. Nowadays, businesses make the shopping experience of their customers super easy by incorporating a “Shop Now” button over the image or video.

Some of the video marketing trends now are:

Video SEO

This type is common in Youtube marketing. Marketers or Youtubers are overlaying texts and SEO content to utilize the whole video. Aside from these, marketers are also using thumbnail images that are engaging along with the proper title and meta description.

Live Video

This type of video marketing is largely seen on Facebook where marketers and business owners sell their products by doing live demos. This attracts buyers and future buyers because they often believe in something they see. This is also a way of proposing the authenticity of the product and its seller. You can also see live videos on Instagram and Youtube.content

Personalized Video

Marketers use this type of video marketing to give importance to their consumers. They have many ways how to know the activities and preferences of their consumers. From their gathered info, they send personalized videos to their prospective customers. These videos say something directly to the customers like discounts because they love discounts, or new arrivals because their internet activities are all about what’s new in fashion.

360-degree Video

This type of video marketing is typically seen on travel businesses, vlogs, and sites. Marketers attract their customers to visit their marketed place by allowing them to explore their travel video from a 360-degree angle.

Programmatic Advertising

Programmatic advertising is a way of buying and selling online advertising in real time. It uses AI to automate the trade. Advertisers or publishers selling space have ways to know the information of visitors when they enter their website. This information will be matched to the available buying advertisers.

Chatbots

Once there are interested advertisers, an auction takes place among the buying advertisers. The advertiser who is willing to have more impressions wins the auction. The winning bidder gets the space on the website. Through programmatic advertising, the winning bidder can identify and target consumers according to the preferred criteria, such as demographics, geography, interests, device, etc.

Chatbots are another AI-based technology in replacement to live-to-chat. International websites use chatbots to cater to their customers 24/7. They are programmed to answer simple frequently asked questions and they respond quickly compare to real customer service.

Numerous known brands are using this technology as their assistant in accomplishing tasks for their business. For example, using chatbots, customers can place an order, make a request, track the location of their order and even make payment through them.

Influencer Marketing

Word-of-mouth is a very powerful type of marketing and its modernized version is influencer marketing. Influencers can be a celebrity, YouTube sensations, Instagram personalities, Facebook streamers, and anyone who has a large reach and is trusted by many. This sort of digital marketing is effective as these influencers are notably authentic and trusted by their followers. They help spread genuine reviews of a product or give bad reviews about other products. Since millennials are fanatics of influencers and mostly believe in what they say, this kind of digital marketing will not be erased in the trend this 2019 and continues to be believable.

Social Commerce

Instagram, for instance, recently opened its social platform for businesses. They allow Instagram shoppers and businesses to interact with each other through the “Buy Now” button which can be found on brand posts. This button is linked to the brand store where the shopper can shop for the posted product. Instagram is now letting users to checkout products using its Instagram Checkout feature. Some of the notable brands using this digital marketing trend are Adidas, H&M, Burberry, MAC, and Michael Kors.

With this manner of marketing, and platforms making it successful, social commerce will be a big thing in the upcoming years.

Voice Search

Google Voice Search popularity has been growing for the past years as well as Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. We call these voice searches as smart assistants which make the life of mobile phone users so much easier and more convenient. In fact last 2016, according to Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai, one-fifth of Google queries were done using voice search. In the succeeding years, Google decided to roll out its voice support across its apps like Google Now launcher, Google Allo, Google Map, etc. making it grow in popularity. Apple’s Siri, on the other hand, has still more growing active users. Moreover, Amazon’s Alexa dominated the holiday season last 2018 as it was reported that Alexa-enabled devices were globally bought by consumers during the season.

As more and more voice search-enabled products are being introduced to the market, optimizing your voice search queries makes a difference to your products.

Image Searching

By studying how consumers find and buy products, marketers learn how they market their products. Image searching is rapidly growing until this year 2019. According to Pinterest’s CEO Ben Silbermann, a lot of the future of search is going to be about pictures instead of keywords. In fact, last 2017, Pinterest teamed up with Samsung in powering image search on Samsung Galaxy S8 with the help of AI assistant “Bixby”. They also came out with “Lens”, a visual search tool that allows users to take a photo of an item and locate where they can buy it online. Aside from Pinterest, Google also launched its own visual search engine which they called Google Lens. Google Lens can recognize an object and landmarks.

The process of image searching is very simple. Using a search image site or search engine, a consumer simply takes a photo of an item, uploads it and the relevant pictures and information come up with the result. Today, since its gaining popularity, many websites and search engines are offering this AI. Such apps and sites are:

  • Bing Visual Search
  • CamFind
  • Google Images
  • Yahoo Images
  • Picsearch

Augmented Reality

AR technology has been improving each year, and in no doubt, is used by marketers because there is always something new about it, it is creative and immersive. AR shopping apps are invented to help consumers in their shopping. The apps literally let the buyers try the product first before buying to avoid remorse.

  • Amazon – This popular shopping site has its own app that is AR-capable. It allows its users to actually place the products they want in their house to see if they fit in or not. It also has its web version which is the Amazon Showroom.
  • AR MeasureKit – This app allows its users to have the actual measurements of their house, room, or any part of their house. It can also measure the size of a face and body if shopping for items of clothing and accessories.
  • Ikea Place – Ikea is literally allowing its consumers to virtually place furniture in whatever space they are decorating using this app. It was once only available to iOS users only, but now Android users can also enjoy it.

Virtual Reality

One strategy in digital marketing that keeps on gaining popularity and keeps on growing is virtual reality. In fact, it can grow up to $60 billion in 10 years. It drives consumer experience by experiencing a product like in real life. It differs from AR in a way that consumers are deeply immersed because the technology taps all of their senses making their experience believable.

  • Marriott International – This hotel group rolled out its location experience to its customers by virtual reality. They called their campaign “Travel Brilliantly”. They built booths which they called “Teleporters” in which the viewers will have the experience of VR versions of London and Hawaii.
  • Game of Thrones – This very popular TV series around the world created a VR experience to help market the series. Aside from wind machines and such, they also used Oculus Rift to make the booth like “The Wall”.
